CRUISES

Cruise bookings are strong for Europe in 2008 and cruise lines are recalling group space. If you are considering a cruise before or after the Intelnet Seminar in Sorrento, it is urgent to book now. Many June sailings are sold out.

LAND TOURS

TOUR OF SICILY: June 8-16 from Sorrento via overnight ferry to Palermo. Tour ends at Catania Airport. Options for onward travel include:
1. One-way air to Rome on a variety of carriers;
2. Departure via your international ticket to the U.S.;
3. Train to Rome (approximately 9 hours, first class @approx $115.00 per person, second class @ approx $76.00, current adult price, scenic trip from southern Italy to Rome). If you intend to continue rail travel in Europe, this journey can be included on your Eurailpass.
4. Return ferry to Naples.

The Tour of Sicily price of 1175 Euros is based on 30 persons. At this time deposits are on hand for 16 persons. Four persons have had to cancel due to unexpected business commitments. In order to maintain the price and published itinerary it is imperative that anyone interested contact Suzanne Drumm now. A cancellation fee is in effect.

Among those heading for Sicily are: Monica & Steve Huss, Bill & Fran Crowley, Dennis & Peg Crowley and 2 friends, Bert and Peggy Falbaum, Tom and Suzanne Drumm and 2 friends, Art and Mary Ann Fredheim.

Sandra has confirmed ferry accommodations and made deposits on hotels in Sicily. Please contact me immediately if you are considering this trip.

INDIVIDUAL TRAVEL: If you need advice and help with individual travel before or after the seminar, please contact me.

BAGGAGE: Various airlines have differing baggage restrictions. Budget lines within Europe permit one bag at 33 lbs. Most traditional lines permit 44 lbs. and more than one bag. The only way to clarify the information is on the particular airline's website.

INSURANCE: Most United States health insurance plans do not provide coverage outside the country. Please confirm coverage with your insurer. It is advisable to purchase Trip Cancellation and Interruption insurance which offers medical coverage including emergency evacuation and repatriation, protection against baggage loss and delay, reimbursement of pre-paid charges, etc. Such insurance is provided by a variety of plans. I offer Access America coverage and CSA Travel Protection. CLICK HERE FOR MORE DETAILS.

GROUP INSURANCE
Because of the varied travel plans of Intelnet members planning to attend the seminar, group insurance was not feasible. Insurance should be purchased on an individual/family basis. Many medical insurance policies do not cover treatment outside the United States. Insuring your travel for a minimum amount will provide medical coverage in Italy. Contact Suzanne Drumm for more details.

ADDITIONAL TOURS IN ROME

Because of the varying arrival plans of members, the previously announced Intelnet tours of Monumental Rome and Ancient Rome are planned for Tuesday June 3, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, to accommodate as many members as possible who wish to take these tours. The cost for both tours and the bus transfer to Sorrento on June 4 is 100 Euros per person.
If you have not advised Jim Carino of your interest in one or both of these tours, please do so as soon as possible.

Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel
There is some interest in a private group tour which could be planned for the morning of 2 June. We will arrange an Intelnet group if there are enough persons. If there is not enough interest to form a group I can arrange for individual tours to accommodate your schedule. Tours are usually offered in the morning only.

Scavi Tour
This is an unusual tour which visits the excavations underneath St. Peter's. It includes the old cemetery of early Rome, containing both pagan and early Christian tombs, which existed on this site when it was outside the city walls of Rome long before St. Peter's was built. Underneath the Basilica also is the site believed to be the burial place of St. Peter and the tombs of more recent popes.
Admission to the Scavi tour is extremely limited and must be reserved in advance. The ticket costs approximately 10 Euros for the 90 minute tour which is not suitable for those suffering from claustrophobia. An English tour is offered.
If you would like to take either or both the Vatican Tour and the Scavi tour, please let me know as soon as possible.

Papal Audience and other Vatican Events
a) The Wednesday Papal Audiences are at 10:30 AM either in St. Peter's Square (Piazza di San Pietro) or in the Audience Hall, depending on the weather and the size of the crowd. Tickets are necessary for indoor audiences. This event (if it is held on June 4) conflicts with the bus schedule to Sorrento (bus departs Rome about 8:30 AM on that date).

b) The Sunday Angelus is led by the Pope in Saint Peter's Square (Piazza San Pietro) at 12 Noon. Tickets are not required. (Sunday June 1, depending on Pope Benedict's schedule)

c) Masses at St. Peter's, both daily and Sunday, are open to the public with the exception of Mass celebrated by the Pope for which tickets are sometimes required.

d) Additional information about the Vatican can be found in English at the web site of Santa Susanna, the American church in Rome: http://www.santasusanna.org/index.html

e) It is possible to visit St. Peter's during normal opening hours to tour the interior on your own. There is no admission charge.

A list of restaurants and other tourist information about Rome will be available. Please reply with your e-mail address if you wish the list to be sent to you prior to traveling to Rome.
