TRAVEL HEALTH INSURANCE

After discussion with the underwriters, the conclusion is that in this particular case group insurance will not work for the Intelnet group. The requirements are that at least 10 persons travel on the same itinerary and everyone on that itinerary must take the insurance. There are too many sub-groups created by the various travel plans of seminar attendees to facilitate meeting these requirements.

While theoretically possible to accommodate those who are doing the pre-seminar events in Rome plus the seminar and then returning home, even those plans have many variables. For the same reason, the Sicily group is problematic as there are independent before and after travel plans.

My recommendation at this point is for each person/couple to purchase independent insurance that provides medical coverage and travel interruption/cancellation insurance up to the amount selected by the purchaser. It is not necessary to insure items that are reimbursable (e.g., hotel rooms that will not be paid for until a person checks out of the hotel), but that decision should be made by the individual. On the other hand, any non-refundable amounts should be protected by insurance.

Usually, a non-refundable airline ticket should be insured, either in full or to the amount it would cost a person to change the dates and apply the balance to a new ticket.

I advise that those interested in insurance coverage contact me on an individual basis if they have questions or wish me to process an application for them. It is possible to purchase emergency medical coverage only, or the classic cancellation/interruption insurance with the medical coverage.
